Small Steps

Small steps can be just as inspiring as giant feats. That’s why we like the Small Step anti-obesity campaign put out by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. It takes a health epidemic and turns it into over 100 simple tips that lead to healthier lifestyles. It’s the same thinking we put into making Morsel. Helping people get a little bit healthier, day by day, can make fitness and nutrition accessible, fun and attainable.

The Small Step initiative is great for everyone. It has a separate kids campaign full of games, challenges and quizzes. It focuses on “cool” things that food can do. For example…watermelon and other fruits filled with vitamin A can help you see better, which may improve those seed spitting skills. By providing simple, valuable information to adults and bringing entertainment to kids, the effort is taking several (small) steps in the right direction.

Britta. Thanks for posting about this campaign. Very interesting, although the promotional flyers for Small Steps are a little creepy with the “missing” body parts. Do you know when this campaign was launched.

Also, American Heart Association just launched a campaign called “My Life Check” with concept “Live Better With The Simple 7″ which focuses on 7 basic changes for healthier living. You can watch their videos here – http://tinyurl.com/HCVsimple7

Morsel seems like a cool concept. I am going to download the iphone app and check it out!

Thanks Gary and thanks for downloading Morsel!

I know the Small Step campaign has been around for at least a few years – I don’t know the exact timing. Those ads you’re referring to are part of the Ad Council’s Obesity Prevention PSA campaign (they’re an extension of Small Step). I think they’re pretty funny.

I took a look at the AHA’s Simple 7 too! I agree with their philosophy, that if we all make the simplest change, we’d be on our way to better health.

We’d love to hear more from you. Follow us on twitter (@gehealthy) and feel free to share more health information as you come across it.
