Health of Nations

GE recently teamed with the Economist Intelligence Unit to produce a study comparing relative health around the globe. The resulting Health of Nations report is a wide-ranging study that looks at 50 different countries using a variety of core health indicators.

The each variables is categorized as indicators of either healhcare input (like nurses or doctors per 10,000 citizens), healthcare outcome (like mortality rates and life expectancy) or healthcare risk (like access to clean water and rate of smokers). The resulting statistics can then be explored through multiple methods, including interactive mapping, video interviews and case studies.

The investigation turned up a wealth of findings that range from apparent to unexpected. For example, one portion of the study shows how the employees of successful companies report higher levels of happiness, while another charts how even though Russia and other Eastern European nations have some of the highest input levels in their health systems, they reap among the fewest benefits.
