Free App Helps Moms-To-Be

Are you or someone you know expecting a baby? So are Christina Applegate, Alicia Keyes, Alanis Morrissette,  “Project Runway” judge Nina Garcia and more than 130 million other women around the world. And now there’s a cool new digital tool for moms-to-be: the I’m Expecting iPhone pregnancy app, a comprehensive pregnancy tracker available for free download on your Android, iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

Launched by MedHelp, the world’s largest online health community website, and GE Healthymagination, I’m Expecting has become the #1 free pregnancy app at the iTunes App store.  The two companies teamed up to create a unique easy-to-use tool that lets moms-to-be monitor their weight gain and symptoms, share with their MD, and compare with thousands of other women in the same week of pregnancy.

“Pregnancy is an important time and we wanted to help expectant moms better track what’s happening in their bodies and facilitate communication with their doctor,” says John de Souza, MedHelp’s CEO and dad of two boys.  Users can view medical appointments at a glance and print out weight gain and symptom charts (after free registration on MedHelp.org), and access their information online from any computer.

The Medhelp site is also a great place to get tips on coping with common pregnancy ailments, like nausea or fatigue, and make new friends, adds de Souza. “We have a very large online pregnancy community where you can meet expectant moms who are over or under age 35, and women who will be delivering in the same month you are, plus forums to ask doctors questions,” adds de Souza.  “A lot of women want to connect with other expectant mothers and make sure what they’re experiencing is normal.”

I’m Expecting also has fun features, such as letting users snap pictures of their pregnant bellies and download them to MedHelp’s online Baby Bump photo gallery to share with friends and family, adds de Souza. “You can look at other women in the same week as you are and we have a contest where people vote on the baby bump of the month.” And after the little one arrives, the app also lets new moms create a birth announcement and email it to friends and family to share the joyful news.
