Designing For Change

#

We’ve written a lot how how design can transform health and the healthcare experience. So when Fast Company put together a slideshow on design products that could change the world, we couldn’t resist highlighting a couple additions that might prove particularly relevant to health.

We were especially impressed by the Haptica Braille wristwatch. Designed by David Chavez, the Haptica avoids the typical use of loud audio and vibrations typically associated with watches for the visually impaired. Instead, it presents the standard military time in easy-to-decipher Braille, which keeps to a subtle profile and avoids drawing undue attention.

Also of note, the Learning Landscape is a hybrid classroom and playground created by Project H Design. Using a grid of tires, kids play orchestrated arithmetic games. So while they learn math, they’re becoming more physically fit. The Learning Landscape is already being implemented in Uganda and the Dominican Republic, and it shows promise to expand.

These are just two great examples of how new design thinking can transform everyday objects and experiences into means of improving health and wellness.
