It may seem like common sense, but according to a new study, bicycling just five minutes a day can help women – particularly those who are overweight – reduce weight gain as they get older.
The study, conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, looked at the weight patterns of 18,000 pre-menopausal women between the ages of 25 and 42 for 16 years. They found that women who rode their bikes for five minutes daily put on about 1.5 pounds less than women who did not bicycle. And women who rode for 30 minutes a day put on 2.5 pounds less than women who did not increase their biking time.
If you’re looking for a way to lose weight, you might want to incorporate bicycling into your everyday life. Instead of driving your car or taking the bus, try riding your bike to work. If you’re too busy to exercise, biking can save you a trip to the gym and become a part of your daily routine.
