Within the medical community, fostering reliance on the typical "your numbers look good, continue doing what you're doing" from your doctor implies the person is on a good course, while they could very be on a very bad course. The numbers are only as good as where they've been relative to where they are. Wellness needs to be addressed outside doctors, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, DME companies and all those that DO NOT benefit from a healthier population. Doctor, pharmaceutical companies, and hosiptals benefit from sickenss...period! However, where is the incentive to speak truth to the doctor who will document what the patient says, and that chart will follow a person the rest of their life, and possibly lead to things like denial of insurance? How can the system honor truth without punishing? People need to feel safe in order to learn. From the table, “What patients say they lie about”, it is clear that folks have a good idea of what they could be doing better.
