Gerhard M. Sontheimer (50), M.D. Ph.D. has been Chairman of the Board of Management of “Gesundheit Nordhessen Holding AG“ since April 2005. The healthcare provider operates six acute care hospitals from primary to ternary care as well as two residential homes for senior citizen, nursing homes and two rehabilitation centers for outpatients and inpatients. In terms of acute medicine, “Gesundheit Nordhessen” is the regional market leader in North Hesse providing care for 66,000 inpatients and 200.000 outpatients every year. With 4.650 employees the company is also one of the largest employers in North Hesse.

Dr. Sontheimer studied medicine and physics at Ulm, Stuttgart, Heidelberg and London. After working as scientist at the Max-Planck Institute of Medical Research at Heidelberg and physician in the UK and Germany he took over various management positions in the pharmaceutical industry, in the medical device industry and as management consultant with A.T. Kearney. Before being appointed as CEO of “Gesundheit Nordhessen” he was CEO of five hospitals owned by a nationwide stock quoted healthcare provider.
